Triangle Model Yacht Club

Home

Welcome to the Triangle Model Yacht Club website.

We routinely sail at Lake Johnson, part of the Raleigh Parks and Recreation system, located on Avent Ferry Road between Athens Drive and Tryon Road.  We sail radio control model yachts that are registered classes with the American Model Yacht Association.  Racing rules for model yachts are the same as the full size boats, which are administered by the US Sailing Federation.  Our primary model yacht is the East Coast - 12.  This boat is based on a water tank test model for an America's Cup contender back in the early 1960's.  The Morgan design was not not selected to compete for the Cup, but has provided a great model yacht that is a pleasure to build and sail.  Hulls are available from a limited number of suppliers with stringent manufacturing specifications. Class rules for this one-design that ensure all boats have the capability of being competitive, which means it's ultimately up to the skill of skipper to win.  We also sail several smaller boats and have selected the the Victoria, by Thunder Tiger,  as a more economical boat for new sailors to enter the sport.

We hope you will come sail with us.  On days we are not racing for club points, a spectator might get handed a radio control to sail one of our little boats.  Check out the gallery for some photos and use the e-mail address noted below to contact us with any questions.
